Enabling ReWire
Go to the “Plugins” page or the “Settings” tab and make sure the “Enable ReWire” button is turned on. You will have to restart Tracktion in order to proceed.
If you have problems with any of the subsequent steps try disabling ReWire using this setting and then re-enabling it.
Installing ReWire
In Tracktion 5 and later, the ReWire shared libraries are automatically installed, if required, when you turn on the “Enable ReWire” setting from the Plugins page on the Settings tab.
To verify this you can check that the ReWire.bundle (OSX) and ReWire.dll (Windows) files exist in the locations listed in the Tracktion 4 section below. On Windows you will have to be running Tracktion as an administrator to be able to install these.
Using ReWire
Once you have installed ReWire, open an Edit and create a new “ReWire Device” plugin on a track. This is available from the “Tracktion Plugins” list.
Click on the plugin to select it in the properties are and you should see a list of ReWire devices when you click on the “Choose Devices” list.
Select your desired device and the properties should change to reflect the device. From here you can select your input and output options for audio and MIDI to the slave application. You can also launch the slave application using the “Launch Editor” button. Note that some applications require launching using this method, rather than the standard application icon.
Problems With ReWire
ReWire comes in two parts, the ReWire shared library, which is installed by Tracktion, and any number of slave application plugins. If you look in the directories below you should see a number of these shared plugins which are required for Tracktion to load other applications as ReWire slaves.
If these applications don’t exist and your desired application does not appear in the ReWire devices list box in Tracktion please refer to your slave application’s help material.
The other common problem with ReWire is using incompatible architectures. If you are running the 32-bit version of Tracktion, you will need to have installed the 32-bit version of your slave application, and vice versa.
Tracktion 4
In Tracktion 4 the ReWire files must be installed manually. You can download these from here. Once downloaded copy the files to the locations below:
Windows 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Propellerhead Software\ReWire\ReWire.dll
Windows 64-bit: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Propellerhead Software\ReWire\ReWire.dll
OSX: “~/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/ReWire.bundle” AND “/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/ReWire.bundle”
